Inside Sales Representative

The inside sales team is responsible for processing quotes and sales orders, purchasing special orders, and coordinating deliveries with the operations team. Inside salespersons perform the critical roles of increasing sales and gross profit dollars, as well as providing our customers with exceptional service.

Job Description

  • Effectively achieves personal sales and profit margin goals as well as Huston Lumber sales and   profit goals.
  • Receives and processes requests from customers for price quotations, product availability, orders, material returns, billing corrections, product information, order changes, and cancellations.
  • Actively participates in answering inbound telephone sales calls and placing outbound telephone sales calls.
  • Purchases special order materials as required.
  • Provides support to outsides sales staff as needed.
  • Coordinates delivery and/or pickup of customer orders with operations.
  • Generates price quotations in a timely manner.
  • Maintains accurate and up to date “open order” and purchase order files.
  • Notifies customers when special orders arrive.
  • Reconciles cash and credit purchases daily.
  • Sustains a working technical knowledge of products offered by Huston Lumber.
  • Maintains and cleans store, office area, and displays as required.
  • Contributes to new product purchasing decisions.
  • Adheres to pricing guidelines as determined by management.
  • Maintains adequate supply of product samples and literature.
  • Interacts with other branches on inventory issues and deliveries.
  • Professionally resolves customer issues and complaints.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed in areas of sales, purchasing, inventory, safety, and accounts receivable.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Previous building materials sales experience required (lumber, engineered wood, windows, doors, millwork, and decking)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, post-secondary education preferred
  • Business math skills consistent with needs of sales position
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Basic Microsoft Office and POS computer skills required
  • Solid relationship building and communications skills
  • Strong commitment to working as a member of a team
  • Ability to work independently
